SEASON FOR GRILLING! THE BASICS

..

My husband used  to grill every
Sunday.  I was a happy camper
for a while.Hooray, I didn't have
to cook the Sunday dinner!Well,
some good things come to end eventually. My husband sustained
an injured right arm and that put
him out of commission for grilling
for months.

I loved grilled food, but I did not
know the first thing about grilling.
I never watched my husband grill.
I was so happy to be labor free for
a day that I avoided being around
when he grilled. I just didn't want
to be asked to go fetch something.

He finally gave me grilling tips after
I used up half a can of lighter fluid
and still didn't have any hot coals! Everybody was hungry and I was
as cranky has a wet hen!

He held out on helping me. He felt
a competition was ahead. Which o
us would be the best griller?

I eventually learned to be a decent griller. I learned a lot from watching
TV shows.  I watched my brothers
and my neighbors grill. I had a new hobby-grilling!!   I was ready to compete now! My husband called
me the "The Grill Master". Please
excuse me, I meant to say "Grill Monster!"

I have watched a lot of elaborate
grilling,rubbing of meat,and fancy
brine mixing.   I am an impatient
cook and want to get the grill hot.
I want to start grilling and eating.
I suggest you buy as many as of
the grilling that your budget will
allow.

Most of my cook-outs were
successful when I used the
"Griller's Must Haves."  You
can get real fancy with your
grilling. Fancy grilling is not
necessary if you learn how
to some grill juicy steaks and
tasty chickens! My family did
not care whether I rubbed my
meat or not. They just wanted
tender and tasty grilled food.

GRILL TIPS FOR NEWBIES

****************************

Remove and discard old charcoal
ashes.  I make  a pyramid with
the charcoal. I drench the entire pyramid with lighter fluid. I wait
10 minutes to let the fluid soak
into the charcoal.  A hand held
charcoal lighter is a good item
to use for lighting the charcoal.
Place the  grill  grate on top of
grill after the charcoal is lit.The
flames from the fire will burn off
debris from previous grilling.

The grill is ready for cooking when
the coals turn white. I am not able
to hold my hand over the grill more
than 10 seconds due to the intense
heat. Remove grate and flatten the pyramid. I move the charcoal to one side of the grill. This will be  my hot side. I keep a spray bottle filled with
water handy to put out flames. The
grease from the meat will cause high
flames.

I brown both sides of the meat. I
don't leave the grill for a second because the food will burn up and
cook too fast if not watched. I will
move the meat to the cool side of
grill to finish cooking. I place the
lid on the grill and open the vents.
I open the lid periodically to make
sure the flames aren't burning up
the meat.

         THE CHARCOAL GRILL

***********************************************************************

I have only used charcoal grills.  The price range varies depending on how elaborate they are.  My husband only
bought Weber grills. I have even seen grills custom made.  I used dream of having a barrel-shaped grill.I decided against it after my boys left home.Hey  I might get crazy  in my old age. I will
buy a grill shaped like a pink pig  and grill for my neighbors.

Check out these styles of grills:

TOOLS OF THE BBQ TRADE

*******************************************************************************

I have gotten lots of BBQ tools set
from my boys.  I preferred the set
with wooden handles the best. The
long handled spatula and fork were used most often.   I have retrieved
a whole bunch of lost hot dogs and broken hamburgers with my tools.
I bought  the gadget used  for the
beer can chicken.My boys laughed
when they saw it. They thought a
chicken sitting upright on the grill
was cool! Please look at these nifty
BBQ grill tools:
